Teeth Cleaning

What kind of teeth cleanings are there?

There are various levels of cleanings available depending on each patient. At Eric Heim Dental, our hygienists provide child prophylaxis, adult prophylaxis, periodontal maintenance, and scaling and root planing.

  • Child prophylaxis is a cleaning for children.

  • Adult prophylaxis is a cleaning for adults with no gum disease present.

  • Periodontal maintenance is a cleaning for adults that don’t currently have gum disease but previously had gum disease that caused some bone loss.

  • Scaling and root planing is when the gum disease is active.

How frequently do I need a teeth cleaning?

At Eric Heim Dental, we recommend the frequency of teeth cleanings based on the individual patient. For child prophylaxis and adult prophylaxis we generally recommend every 6 months. For periodontal maintenance and scaling and root planing, it could be as frequent as every 3-4 months.
